Big Tuck will be at Pirscription’s Birthday Party, August 22, @ The Venue!!

2015 Birthday - 500 -HEADER

August 22nd 2015, Big Tuck will be at Pirscription’s 2nd Annual Birthday Party in Waco, Tx …… #ShamelessPlug

When you go through the Dallas artist that made an impact it won’t take you long to get to Big Tuck and the DSR family.  It was 2004 and I was working at the Red Bird mall Foot Action in Oak Cliff when I got introduced to them, the songs ”Tussle“ and ”Southside The Realist“ were blowing up on K104 and impossible not to hear at a party.

I remember someone telling me that they’re music was like an aggressive S.U.C. and that was somewhat accurate. I met Tuck one day when him and Lil Ronnie were in the store, to see how people were feeling them in a town that usually didn’t show that much love to local artist said a lot. To tell the story of Dirty South Rydaz you have to know the career of George Lopez. Back in 1994 Lopez opened his record shop, T-Town Music. This spawned a career handling regional marketing, promotions and distribution for No Limit, Rap-A-Lot, Swisha House and several other record labels.  In 2001 Lopez was a man with a vision of what would become Dirty South Rydaz (DSR). He selected rappers Big Tuck, Tum Tum, Double T, Fat B, Lil’ Ronnie and Addiction from Dallas neighborhoods, the group would release an onslaught of albums and mixtapes both collectively and as solo artist over the next 10 years. DSR went on to sign a major label deal with universal and released their last album in 2010 but fast forward to present day and to the talks of the new DSR album that is being released this year, and from the looks of the recent Tuck video release “Stay Ready“, maybe a Tuck album also??

As excitement builds for the album, Pirscription brings the man himself to Waco,Texas on August 22nd for the 2nd annual Birthday Party. The party will be at The Venue and will feature some of the best of Central Texas talent and if last year is any indication of what is to come then I promise you that you don’t want to miss it.

D. Hewitt “The Right One” feat Giovanni Tha King, Duce D, Pirscription – [FREE STREAM]

the-right-one-BLOG

Central Texas music has seen an abundance of quality music released in 2015 and it’s gonna continue with the release of D.Hewitt’s track “The Right One”. It is off of his newest album, Care Package, which was recorded at Trojan Town studios and is set for a July 3rd release.

It’s an exciting time for artist in the Waco area, and this track features 3 of the hardest grinding artist doing it, D. Hewitt sets the tone and gives his rundown of a night with a love interest which is followed by the hook, between a soul sample and Giovanni Tha King it fits just right setting up each verse, second is Duce D from the One Of A Kind Records family who is coming off of the release of Closed Caskets which is his collaboration with Pirscription who takes the third verse and keeps it on point with a warning to what might happen if you’re the right one.

This record is just in time for those summer nights so be prepared to hear this all summer. Salute to D for keeping the momentum going for all of us local artist who just want to put our city on.

“Before I leave, could you please, Pass Me The Lighter?” by: JLD

PMTL -BLOG 1

I knew the homie and Cen-Tex rapper Big Gibz had a new track with Pirscription called “Pass Me The Lighter” that would be the follow up to the highly successful “Body Bags” they did, but I didn’t have any expectations for it and didn’t know what to expect. Soooo, with that being said…..

I got a new record to add to my playlist

Take that as me saying this shit jams, it’s got a laid back beat (S/O to Dat Trill Meskin Gibbie) and the hook (a sample from Gibz verse on Body Bags) combines for perfect riding music.

Gibz verse is first, he delivers and keeps it all about the subject at hand with a memorable verse followed by Pirscription who has been on point lately and keeps his string of dope verses going. Rasheed delivers maybe the most solid verse of the song, with a unique flow it felt good to hear again.

But then……. an almost akward pause in the song, that loses you in the smokey atmosphere of the moment.

Just when your mind gets to the top of the roller coaster, Juan Gotti from the Dope House fam catches you off guard as the entire track screws itsself slower, to an old school Texas flow pace. With a screwed outro featuring Cyp D Hype from the “80′s Babies”,  this record is a perfect addition to any smoking mixes, so download it, and before I leave…. could you please PASS ME THE LIGHTER?

Messy hair. Tired eyes. Sore feet. Have you been at SXSW?

at sxsw blog pic copy

I’m writing this at my desk and to put it plainly, my hips hurt and my back hurts and I need a marathon sleep session…but not before I make a note of things I need to do next year to make it better.  Here is a list of some things I DID do.

I drunk some beer, mostly Fireman’s ale but also indulged on Shiner. Thanks, Yahoo for the FREE beer.

Ate Bar-B-Que at an underrated spot called Blue Ribbon.

Ate Fried Chicken at Gus’s and Enchiladas at Amaya’s,  both hit the spot.

Sang along to “Hey there, Delilah” and “Trap Queen” within a couple hours of each other.

Saw 3 Folk bands at obscure venues.

Hit a “No Flex Zone” while stuck in traffic with Rae Sremmurd

Saw Riff Raff tell a fan that he couldn’t take a pic because “I have to go eat, get them gains”

Didn’t come close to seeing Incubus……. at all….

Almost got to see Sam Hunt and Jackie Green, bummed about both.

Jarren Benton performed his ass off.

This past weekend had a different vibe, to me it felt a bit nostalgic and i’m sure the rain had a lot to do with the calmness of it all but none the less,  I enjoyed it.

Some of the parties and events that are never an option in recent years were an option this year, for instance the Yahoo party which is usually out of the question had great events this year that were able to be enjoyed. The Fader Fort was another event that was said to be less packed then in recent years or at least felt that way. The food was over priced and the drinks were too but just like any other year, free beer is an option if you look hard enough.

The women mostly looked uncomfortable, I met a couple gorgeous school teachers, met a gorgeous stripper (I’m guessing) from New Orleans and met an older lady at the Young Thug show that looked like Dr.Quinn the Medicine Woman and randomly asked me if I liked Goodie Mob, then told me how she had a friend that wore green jeans and loved the song “Greeny Green”. S/O to the girl in the red dress who spilled red wine all on the back of Script’s shirt & didn’t tell anybody, it made for a good laugh when we left the show, haha.

I will be on to another festival next month, in Florida, and will probably have more interesting stories but something about being in Austin and the energy of SXSW that keeps us coming back… oh yeah, the expensive food and uncomfortable looking woman don’t hurt.

“Where outcast and beatniks would socialize” by: JLD

ftworth-reviewt-slider copy

This past Saturday on March 14, We tried once again to bring Central Texas music to a bigger market. We succeeded.

The venue was The Cellar, a bar type set up with multiple rooms and a downstairs bar. It has a history of being a place where outcast and beatniks would socialize, play music and drink during the 70′s. The stage was in the center room and elevated about 2ft, it’s a very intimate set-up which makes up most of it’s charm. There were 2 murals that caught our attention and they consisted of historical music figures drawn together, like Elvis on the toilet and Janis Joplin setting next to Jimi Hendrix.

FTWORTH-SHOW-PICWWSome (But not all) of us, making a pit-stop on the way to the venue. lol #PreGame

We got there for sound check and still had time to kill, the venue is located right in the middle of TCU with many food choices, I had to introduce the Waco boy’s to Fuzzy’s Taco (Told you Jay, Gibbie, and T). We got back to the spot and started enjoying some beverages. It was a fun night and I even got to meet Steven Watkins of DFW.com who was there to capture the evening, here is the link to that! >> http://www.dfw.com/2015/03/16/978164/concert-review-sxsw-kickoff-party.html

Thanks to Callie Dee and The Gitmo fam, yall got some talent and I look forward to working with y’all.

The next week will be crazy for us as we head to Austin for my official showcase (http://schedule.sxsw.com/2015/events/event_MS30229), we will have some great articles, recaps and stories, so look forward to what is coming and thanks for riding with us. PEACE.

“I witnessed a murder this past Friday.” by JLD.

0-100 - blog pic

As we gather here today to mourn the loss of some wack MC’s, we shall take time to say thank you to the ones not bending and folding, lying and pretending, or living a make believe life that will be revealed as a facade, AND THAT DAY IS HERE!!….. Well…… almost!

Untill then, here is the first visual release from “Closed Caskets”, an OOAK revamp of “0-100″.

Trash, could be defined as unwanted, nasty, no good or un-useable items and in this video the two rappers are seen literally taking the trash out. Is that an underlying narrative?

After watching “0-100″, a surprise video release from OOAK last Friday, it is in my opinion, a metaphorical view of how almost all of us feel about the current state of hip-hop.

The album planned for a Beyoncé style release some time between now and SXSW, I myself have been anticipating the record for a while now (I told Script he’s bullsh*tting) but, I now have confirmation that it is done and about to be pressed.

I want to encourage everyone to check out this video and see how you perceive it. Peace, I’m out.
