The Legend Continues ….

TUCK PARTY BLOG HEADER

Last Saturday I worked all day and was dreading driving to Waco but I knew that I couldn’t miss this shit and Ooooh boy was I right.

The occasion was Pirscription’s Birthday Party, and not just a regular party, but one that had to live up to the hype of last years event that seen Texas legends Mr. Pookie and Mr Lucci hit the stage in what is still being called an amazing performance.

Hold up, you thought it wouldn’t be as live? Yooour wrong.

This year was dope and if you were there then I know you enjoyed yourself, the performances were once again on point, the atmosphere was nice and the vibe was right.

It felt like a who’s who of the Waco area with a lot of people making moves in the building. The music stayed live with a steady stream of everything jamming, DJ Cyse, DJ ADeezy, and DJ Texas T providing Master of Ceremonies duties. The liquor was flowing through the VIP lounge, which stayed nice and active as food and drinks were being served. (I served some drinks…..I bet you hated me the next morning, huh?)

Right around the time the performances started the energy picked up and never stopped. The opening acts were as I said before were on point, delivered a great show and set the tone for what was the gasoline to the fire. I had seen most of these artist before and was impressed again none the less. Trouble City had people singing along, and Cinto converted some new fans. The always reliable Lucky Loc brought out his shining protege D.B. to assist him in his high energy set and in what was a long awaited performance Bellafante did not disappoint in adding a level of showmanship to his show that was appreciated by all, 2 Stoned came with some lovely ladies and knocked out his performance (Microphone in the car) haha and I be damn if Script didn’t bring his crew through to smash it, Script, Duce and Junior took turns showcasing their skills before making way for the Freight Train…

Big Tuck, the Dallas legend was in Waco and delivered a great performance. I had never seen Tuck perform but knew more then a few of his records and he didn’t disappoint, and kept rocking the crowd to the fan favorites. The highlights were definitely the crowds energy spike during “Tussle” and the impromptu twerk contest in the crowd during the set, Tuck being the veteran that he is commanded the crowd with call and response sections that kept the crowd entwined. At the end of his set, you could tell the crowd wanted more, and in a surprise twist, he told Script and Cyse to hit the crowd with some throwback requests and delivered an AMAZING encore. It was closer to closing time when Tuck left the stage, but not before freestyling and passing the mic to OOAK artist Junior. who had the entire building riding the beat with him screaming in hype! In another move that was uncommon with most artist he stayed and kicked it, chopping it up and taking pics. Another reason why Pirscription’s Birthday Party’s are a must attend.

I spoke with Tuck for a sec and asked if he’s performed in Waco before and if he enjoyed coming back?

Tuck: I haven’t been here in about a year and a half, I appreciate Script bringing me out. Waco has always showed love and was one of the early supporters of the DSR movement.

(At that moment I was interrupted by the glare of a couple highly intoxicated females waiting to take a pic and as a journalist you learn to just get out of the way…more interview to come.)

So, cheers to another great time and if I know Script then you should just go ahead and get a couple VIP tickets and be ready.

Happy Birthday Script. Peace.

Big Tuck will be at Pirscription’s Birthday Party, August 22, @ The Venue!!

2015 Birthday - 500 -HEADER

August 22nd 2015, Big Tuck will be at Pirscription’s 2nd Annual Birthday Party in Waco, Tx …… #ShamelessPlug

When you go through the Dallas artist that made an impact it won’t take you long to get to Big Tuck and the DSR family.  It was 2004 and I was working at the Red Bird mall Foot Action in Oak Cliff when I got introduced to them, the songs ”Tussle“ and ”Southside The Realist“ were blowing up on K104 and impossible not to hear at a party.

I remember someone telling me that they’re music was like an aggressive S.U.C. and that was somewhat accurate. I met Tuck one day when him and Lil Ronnie were in the store, to see how people were feeling them in a town that usually didn’t show that much love to local artist said a lot. To tell the story of Dirty South Rydaz you have to know the career of George Lopez. Back in 1994 Lopez opened his record shop, T-Town Music. This spawned a career handling regional marketing, promotions and distribution for No Limit, Rap-A-Lot, Swisha House and several other record labels.  In 2001 Lopez was a man with a vision of what would become Dirty South Rydaz (DSR). He selected rappers Big Tuck, Tum Tum, Double T, Fat B, Lil’ Ronnie and Addiction from Dallas neighborhoods, the group would release an onslaught of albums and mixtapes both collectively and as solo artist over the next 10 years. DSR went on to sign a major label deal with universal and released their last album in 2010 but fast forward to present day and to the talks of the new DSR album that is being released this year, and from the looks of the recent Tuck video release “Stay Ready“, maybe a Tuck album also??

As excitement builds for the album, Pirscription brings the man himself to Waco,Texas on August 22nd for the 2nd annual Birthday Party. The party will be at The Venue and will feature some of the best of Central Texas talent and if last year is any indication of what is to come then I promise you that you don’t want to miss it.

D. Hewitt “The Right One” feat Giovanni Tha King, Duce D, Pirscription – [FREE STREAM]

the-right-one-BLOG

Central Texas music has seen an abundance of quality music released in 2015 and it’s gonna continue with the release of D.Hewitt’s track “The Right One”. It is off of his newest album, Care Package, which was recorded at Trojan Town studios and is set for a July 3rd release.

It’s an exciting time for artist in the Waco area, and this track features 3 of the hardest grinding artist doing it, D. Hewitt sets the tone and gives his rundown of a night with a love interest which is followed by the hook, between a soul sample and Giovanni Tha King it fits just right setting up each verse, second is Duce D from the One Of A Kind Records family who is coming off of the release of Closed Caskets which is his collaboration with Pirscription who takes the third verse and keeps it on point with a warning to what might happen if you’re the right one.

This record is just in time for those summer nights so be prepared to hear this all summer. Salute to D for keeping the momentum going for all of us local artist who just want to put our city on.

“Before I leave, could you please, Pass Me The Lighter?” by: JLD

PMTL -BLOG 1

I knew the homie and Cen-Tex rapper Big Gibz had a new track with Pirscription called “Pass Me The Lighter” that would be the follow up to the highly successful “Body Bags” they did, but I didn’t have any expectations for it and didn’t know what to expect. Soooo, with that being said…..

I got a new record to add to my playlist

Take that as me saying this shit jams, it’s got a laid back beat (S/O to Dat Trill Meskin Gibbie) and the hook (a sample from Gibz verse on Body Bags) combines for perfect riding music.

Gibz verse is first, he delivers and keeps it all about the subject at hand with a memorable verse followed by Pirscription who has been on point lately and keeps his string of dope verses going. Rasheed delivers maybe the most solid verse of the song, with a unique flow it felt good to hear again.

But then……. an almost akward pause in the song, that loses you in the smokey atmosphere of the moment.

Just when your mind gets to the top of the roller coaster, Juan Gotti from the Dope House fam catches you off guard as the entire track screws itsself slower, to an old school Texas flow pace. With a screwed outro featuring Cyp D Hype from the “80′s Babies”,  this record is a perfect addition to any smoking mixes, so download it, and before I leave…. could you please PASS ME THE LIGHTER?

“Closed Caskets: Tracks 5-9″ by JLD

cc-5-9-blog pic

I’m back with some more of my thoughts, this time for tracks 5-9 and the mixtape just keeps getting better. Let’s go.

Track 5 “Mixtape Shit” explains the tape perfectly.  “What they do, we do it better so we remake it”.  This will be a crowd favorite and one everyone will love to see perform.

Track 6 “Take Kare”, from the dramatic intro to the tone in Duce‘s voice as he spits “they hate to see a young king make it from the same place they stuck at, same place a n*gga had to move from around”. The whole vibe of this record is dope and Pirscription made sure he was gonna equal Duce‘s ferocity while spitting “momma got a second job, now at lunch I got extra crispitos”.

I told you these dudes were spitting and it’s only 6 songs in.

Track 7 “Conscious” is where the tape gets tricky, although Duce D is featured on this song solo, it is actually the first of two different tracks to the same beat……. and that in itself, is oddly intriguing.

Track 8 “Bass” will be one of the most played records off the mixtape, Script does his thing on this hook, and shows he has a dope record on his hands. I don’t want to say too much but I will say, GIVE THIS A LISTEN and make sure you have your girl in the passenger seat.

Track 9 “Pegasus” is the name, and this song is definitely on the rise, it’s a standout part of the mixtape being as it is the only real SOLO track on the mixtape. Duce D displays his lyrical cleverness in the most laid back of ways on this one, clinging onto the title nicely with “You can Ride to it, Get High to it, Fly Away”.

Want to hear more of Closed Caskets? Slide over to the online store and purchase your copy today, or watch the first 2 visuals released from the project below.
